Anonymous asked: I think Landon is right when he said that it wouldn't feel the same winning a World Cup with players that didn't grow up in America and aren't 100% proud to play for the USA and would be relatively unaffected by going "three and out" than it would be with players that are grown and developed from within, like when Germany won in 2014.
Landon Donovan is petty and treats the US Soccer federation with 0 respect even though US Soccer praises everything that he does. (Even after he bailed on World Cup qualifying, then assumed he deserved his #1 spot back once qualifying was almost done)
Every National Team has Dual-Nat players that don’t always identify as the country they represent. EVERY TEAM has players on it that were born in another country.
The German 2014 World Cup winning squad is not an exception to this!
Lukas Podolski was born in Poland and grew up wanting to play for Poland until the Polish NT manager thought Lukas wasn’t good enough and so he chose to play for Germany.
Mesut Ozil has said “I will always be Turkish” in interviews but he chose to play for Germany because he thought they would be more successful.
Miroslav Klose GERMANY’S LEADING GOAL SCORER was born in Poland. He didn’t even move to Germany until he was 8 and he knew 2 words in German. He also chose to play for Germany because he thought they would be more successful.
The 2014 USMNT squad was not the first to have players of other Nationalities on it. Stuart Holden, Pablo Mastroeni, Earnie Stewart, Carlos Llamosa, Thomas Dooley, Tab Ramos, Preki, and Frank Klopas were NOT born in the United States yet were on our World Cup Squads.
Of the 1930 USMNT Squad (which was our best finish ever at 3rd place) 37% of the players were born in the UK.
On the opposite end of this there have been players born in the United States who chose to play for other countries.
The belief that the USMNT is the only squad of mixed nationalities is wrong, just as believing that we shouldn’t allow people of other nationalities (who are fully qualified) to play for the USMNT is also wrong.
